Country Star Tim McGraw Talks About His Father's True Identity

The country singer has opened up about "partying" in his youth and the damage it did both physically and personally, along with how he stopped and moved on with his life.

"When your wife tells you it's gone too far," People quoted McGraw on June 17, "That's a big wake-up call. That, and realizing you're gonna lose everything you have. Not monetarily, not career-wise, but family-wise."

Tim McGraw Discusses Life With Faith Hill And Their Daughters

McGraw and Hill have been married since 1996 and have three daughters together, 17-year-old Gracie, 15-year-old Maggie, and 12-year-old Audrey. McGraw has often spoken of how fortunate his daughters are for having a mother like Hill. Nearly ten years ago, however, he did not consider himself to be the best man.

"You feel like you're supposed to be 'on' all the time," said McGraw in describing his substance abuse and the pressures of performing.

"I drank too much," McGraw told of his early years, "I partied too much. And I did other things too much."

It was Hill who sat McGraw down and voiced her concern and as a result the country singer made an effort to change his life for both wife and his children. He went from drinking and performing to being awarded Favorite Country Music Icon at People's Choice Awards.
