The storylines that Nick faces in this season's Rookie Blue has been able to serve as quite the distraction from the fact that Andy chose Sam over him in the finale.

Mystery Woman To Shake Things Up On 'Rookie Blue'?

Peter Mooney who plays Nick recently told The Huffington Post, "Nick stepped away in the season finale last year. Those life and death situations sometimes bring things into a sharp focus. Right off the top, Nick takes himself out of the equation. That's tough because we all come to work every day. It's difficult, especially at the beginning of this season, but it will be on to different adventures for him."

Still, his personal life doesn't compare to the career transition that he is set to experience. And it won't be all bad.

'Rookie Blue' Star Missy Peregrym Secretly Weds Just Before Premiere Date?

"There's a lot of procedural stuff, including the revisiting of an old tradition at the station, which is a fun episode."

Mooney went on to reveal that he faces similar serious issues as his character, Nick Collins, in the upcoming season. At the time of the interview, the cast was taping an episode called Moving Day, which touches on a topic that Mooney is all too familiar with.

Mooney said, "This is something that is going on in the community I live in right now. They are demolishing a bunch of public housing buildings and the police are there to make sure the last people have moved out. As you can imagine, the stories of the last people are more complicated than the people that were ready to go on the deadline."

Rookie Blue's fifth season premieres on ABC Thursday at 9/8c.
