Eminem burst onto the scene at the turn of the millennium, but then he had to suffer through some years in the wilderness dealing with addiction and family problems and other assorted negatives.

Eminem Rap God Music Video

Well, Marshall Mathers may be in his 40s now, but his latest release has made enough of a splash to earn Eminem several nominations for the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards. As Vulture reported on Thursday, Eminem led all male artists with seven nominations.

While Eminem isn't up for the so called "big one," Video of the Year, he will have plenty of chances to take home another VMA Award. He's up for Best Male for his Rihanna-featuring song The Monster. The duo also got a nomination for Best Collaboration. The video also got a Best Direction nod, but that's more a nomination for the director, even if Eminem's name is attached to it.

Berzerk got a nomination for Best Hip Hop, which is also the only award Kanye West is up for this year. Then, the video for Rap God got a few technical nominations, one for Best Editing, one for Best Art Direction, and one for Best Video Effects.

Even if Eminem doesn't win any of these awards, and the fact that he has seven nominations indicates he likely will win at least a couple, this is an impressive rebound, at least in terms of popularity, for Mathers. His album sold well, and several publications named it amongst its best albums of the year for 2013. On MTV August 24, fans will see if any "moon men" are added to the accolades.
