While it may seem crazy to think the Thor series could be coming to a close, it actually seems plausible with the recent news that Thor would become a female in the upcoming comics. But how will Chris Hemsworth leave the franchise?

'Thor 3' Spoilers: Chris Hemsworth Teases Armageddon Storyline With Big Villain

There is speculation that the third installment could include the character, Amora the Enchantress, a seductive and powerful sorceress who can enslave a person with just one kiss. She is also a villain of Thor's. Entertainment Weekly writer Darren Franich hypothesized the idea.

"She's sort of Thor's Catwoman - sometimes a villain, sometimes a love interest. Let's throw her into the mix as a Loki lieutenant," Franich added. "Maybe, after a couple years of relative tranquility, Jane gets suspicious that Thor has returned to his old wild-child ways."

Franich believes that Margot Robbie from The Wolf of Wall Street would be perfect for the role.

More recently, there is also speculation that the plot could be based on the Ragnarok comics. This could be a possibility after the ending of Thor: The Dark World left Odin off the throne, instead replaced by Loki.

In Ragnarok, Loki dies. He created an army collaboration with Thor and Asgard's enemy Fire Giant Surtur. During the combat in defending Asgard, Loki was decapitated.

In the comics, Asgard will fall, and all of Thor's troops who gathered to defend it never stood a chance since the legendary hammer was destroyed. Thor then surrendered Asgard to their enemy, Muspellheim. Thor also dies in the Ragnarok plot.

Could this be the out Marvel wants? They could set Thor 3 in one of the dates following Avengers 3 where Thor completes his storyline with the superhero team and then moves to his final standalone where he dies and leaves the franchise open to reboot with a female lead.

Thor 3 has no set release date so far. The hero will next be seen in Avengers: Age of Ultron set to come out on May 1, 2015.
