It seems like there will no longer be the God of Thunder, but rather the Goddess of Thunder.

Marvel's Kevin Feige Confirms 'Avengers 2' Rumors, Are Iron Man and Hulk Going to Fight?

Marvel announced on The View on Tuesday that Norse God and Avengers member Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth in the movies, would be switching to a female in the upcoming comics.

"This is not She-Thor," senior writer Jason Aaron said. "This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is THOR. This is the THOR of the Marvel Universe. But it's unlike any Thor we've ever seen before."

According to Marvel, Thor is longer capable to carry the hammer and must give it to the next worthy person.

"The inscription on Thor's hammer reads 'Whosoever holds this hammer, if HE be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.' Well it's time to update that inscription," said Marvel editor Wil Moss. "The new Thor continues Marvel's proud tradition of strong female characters like Captain Marvel, Storm, Black Widow and more. And this new Thor isn't a temporary female substitute - she's now the one and only Thor, and she is worthy!"

So far the reactions have been mostly positive, with the few negative remarks saying that Marvel's motives behind doing this is shady and it seems more like a headline-grabber than anything.

Some reactions, including one from Chronicle writer Max Landis, points out that the original Thor is not technically gone, he is just stepping aside for the female Thor to take over. Landis commented that the female Thor isn't replacing him in a meaningful way.

Thor can next be seen in the movies in Avengers: Age of Ultron in May 2015.
