After the success of Days of Future Past, X-Men is back near the top of the superhero pool with critical and commercial acclaim behind it. With the follow-up, Apocalypse, many are wondering if director Bryan Singer and writer Simon Kinberg will go darker and push the limits of the franchise. Could those limits be pushed by including notable faces as villains?

Channing Tatum's Gambit May Not Appear In 'X-Men: Apocalypse'

Both Singer and Kinberg have gone on the record as saying that they won't reveal the cast of the Four Horsemen anytime soon, or until the movie plays, but could some familiar faces from X-Men combine with new mutants?

There has already been speculation that Wolverine could possibly be a Horseman. He has shown up as one during the comics and Jackman is already practically confirmed to show up in a large role during the sequel.

Could An 'X-Men: The Last Stand' Mutant Return For 'Apocalypse?'

It would be a tough route though. Jackman is the staple, and has been since the very first X-Men movie back in 2000. Turning him bad could possibly rub people the wrong way, but would also be an interesting move when it comes to story. Jackman has said that he is revitalized on the character following Days of Future Past, and going bad for a movie could be the stretch that he needs to keep him in the role.

As for the other Horsemen, the other rumored return would be Angel, who last appeared in X-Men: Last Stand. But as for new faces, could Singer and Kinberg bring in mutants such as Plague, Mister Sinister, or even Red Hulk?

It isn't out of the realm of possibility, and having a bruiting force like Red Hulk could be great for the franchise (especially since the green one is going over well over at Marvel). But maybe another familiar face could crop up like Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence).

Mystique has been a villain before, and Lawrence played a little bad in Days of Future Past so seeing her take on an evil role would make way more sense than James McAvoy's Professor X turning bad.

Whichever way they go, Singer and Kinberg could turn the tables on the franchise with this new installment, and characters allegiance could be switching, at least for one epic movie.
