Novelist Craig Johnson has had unprecedented access to A&E's Longmire, which is based on his beloved book series.

'Longmire' Stars Keep Busy As Series Awaits Renewal

While the show is currently awaiting news of renewal for a fourth season, Johnson has begun to tour the country promoting his work. The writer started out in Cody, WY, which has been the first stop for each and every one of his book tours throughout the years.

According to Cody Enterprise on Tuesday, Johnson finished off his discussion with the Park County Public Library, with some questions from the audience. Fans naturally asked about the A&E series, particularly if the writer had any news about the show's fourth season.

'Longmire' Ratings Dip For Season 3 Finale

The writer acknowledged that he did not know for certain, noting that the same things don't always play out well on television as they do in books.

"It's a different art form," explained Johnson.

The audience enjoyed Johnson's visit, even if the author didn't come bearing spoilers regarding the television series.

"I don't know anybody who doesn't get long with Craig Johnson," admitted 77-year-old Cody resident Don Bentzen.

"I've real all his books and always watch the TV show," added Chuck Stapleton, "It will be a long wait to see how the show goes."

With the program's fate still uncertain, fans might not get the opportunity to find out. The series is able to boast the highest ratings for any scripted show on the network, which gives it a shot. The program also has a steady, loyal following.

If Longmire does return to A&E for a fourth season, it will likely do so in June 2015.
