Fresh off winning numerous Emmys Monday night, one of the executive producers of Sherlock is previewing a "devastating" Season 4, set to air in 2016.

Steven Moffat Says He 'Would' Be Down For Sherlock & Doctor Who Crossover

Steven Moffat won the Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Miniseries, Movie or Dramatic Special on Monday for his work on Sherlock for the episode His Last Vow. Additionally, stars Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) and Martin Freeman (Watson) won Emmys for Lead Actor and Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie, respectively.

Moffat was backstage after his big win where he teased the feeling of the fourth season, which has not even started filming yet.

"We have a plan to top it," Moffat said, answering a reporter's question in regard to Season 4 versus Season 3. "And I do think our plan is devastating."

He added, "We've practically reduced our cast to tears telling them the plan ... we're probably more excited that we've ever been about Sherlock."

Continuing his Season 4 tease at the HBO after-party, Moffat said that they were going to take Sherlock "somewhere we've never been before," quipping that that doesn't mean they're going to outer space.

"It will be challenging place to go. We always start with a re-introduction that builds toward a darker climax - we might just be going darker [from the outset]. We got a very, very good set of ideas."

Sherlock Season 3 ended with a cliffhanger as the presumed dead villain Moriarty (Andrew Scott) was broadcast throughout England saying, "Did you miss me?" It seems likely that the series will continue with the Sherlock-Moriarty plot line into Season 4.

Sherlock Season 4 begins filming in 2015 and is expected to air in early 2016.
