After Jim Moriarty (Andrew Scott) reappeared in the Season 3 finale of BBC's Sherlock in a shocking twist, the show's star is not revealing whether or not the villain will appear again in Season 4.

Sherlock Season 4 Release Date Uncertain As PBS Chief Assures New Episodes Will Be 'Terrific'

Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays the titular Sherlock Holmes in the series, appeared at Comic-Con this weekend where he talked to MTV about the Moriarty twist and said that while he knows what will happen, he is trying to forget before filming on Season 4 begins.

"I casually choose to forget in order to rediscover it again a little bit," Cumberbatch admitted. "I like casually forgetting, not least because there's a lot of other traffic between then and now but also because it's more fun because it's slightly more fresh."

Benedict Cumberbatch Not Considered Good-Looking Enough For Sherlock Originally

Regardless, Cumberbatch said that he likes the twist, which featured Moriarty seemingly coming back from the dead after shooting himself in the head in the Season 2 finale.

"It's a very good idea, I do remember that detail," he said. "I'm just trying not to remember it so I don't blurt it out."

Sherlock fans will have to wait awhile to have their questions answered about Moriarty, however. Filming on a one-off special is set to begin in January 2015 in addition to a three-episode fourth season later in the year. This means that all of this content will likely be released in late 2015 and/or early 2016.

"After the briefest of exiles, #Sherlock will return to face one of his biggest mysteries yet... #221back," the BBC One Twitter account teased in early July. This thought continued into the next tweet, which read, "...why is Moriarty's face being broadcast on every television in the land?"
