Fans are still pulling for Longmire after A&E cancelled the series last week, though some believe no amount of audience support will be able to revive the program for a fourth season.

The Cast Of 'Longmire' Keeps Busy With New Projects

According to the Los Angeles Register, it may not have mattered that the drama was A&E's top-rated scripted series and second amongst the network's entire collection of programming. In the end, the decision ultimately came down to advertising.

Networks like HBO and Showtime don't have to worry about commercial coverage and can thus base their programming decisions more heavily on ratings. With A&E, however, they need to sell that ad space.

'Longmire' Ratings Dip For Season 3 Finale

The argument made by the Los Angeles Register is that the general audience for the crime drama was older than advertisers wanted them to be. On top of that, the series had a top-quality cast which filmed on location, which made production significantly more expensive in comparison to some of the network's reality-based shows.

Warner Horizon hopes to give Longmire a fourth season on a new network, though the series has yet to find a home. Hulu or Netflix might seem like strong possibilities, and the Los Angeles Register even makes a case for TNT to pick up the drama, but nothing has been decided just yet. The cast remains hopeful and fans continue to voice their encouragement through social media.

If Longmire returns for Season 4 on a different network, it will likely do so during the second half of 2015.
