In the upcoming fourth season of ABC's Once Upon a Time, actress Elizabeth Mitchell will very likely be playing the big villain of the first half of episodes.

Once Upon a Time Elsa Has Another "Surprise" For Anna In Season 4

Once Upon a Time show runners Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis spoke with Entertainment Weekly recently about Mitchell's character in the upcoming season.

"For the first time, we're showing a villainous side to Elizabeth Mitchell," Horowitz teased. "There's a dark side that Elizabeth is accessing and she's doing so in chilling fashion."

Elsa Won't Necessarily "Let It Go" on Once Upon a Time

EW previously suggested that she should play Frozen's Queen Elsa before Georgina Haig was ultimately cast. Kitsis suggested that they may be on the right track.

"When you see her character, it will be everything you wanted her to be," Kitsis said, cryptically.

It was previously revealed that Mitchell would either be playing Elsa's mother or the Snow Queen. Considering an upcoming episode of Season 4 is actually titled The Snow Queen, chances are the Lost alum will be playing the character, who is traditionally villainous in nature.

Disney's Frozen was actually based on Hans Christian Andersen's The Snow Queen story, though it was a very loose adaptation.

Several Frozen characters are set to make their Once Upon a Time debut in Season 4. In addition to Elsa, the new season will feature her sister Anna (Elizabeth Lail), Kristoff (Scott Michael Foster), Hans (Tyler Jacob Moore) and Pabbie, the elder troll (voiced by John Rhys-Davies).

Once Upon a Time Season 4 is set to kick off Sunday, Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
