Agents of SHIELD Lance Hunter survived the premiere car wreck, but that doesn't mean it will be business as usual for the mercenary.

A member of Isabelle Hartley's (Lucy Lawless) team, Hunter (Nick Blood) is suddenly a man without a country. Blood is now a series regular, but the Brit will have to decide whether or not his loyalties truly lie with SHIELD.

"He does play a larger role, yes," teased executive producer Jed Whedon, according to Entertainment Weekly. "Whether or not he'll return [to Coulson's team], we'll answer some of those questions in episode 2."

In a new sneak peek for episode 2, "Heavy Is The Head," May (Ming-Na Wen) and Coulson (Clark Gregg) deal with the immediate aftermath the Creel-induced car crash (see video below). The director wonders what exactly Hartley's team was up to, and where Hunter has suddenly disappeared to.

"Two agents down and another captured," Coulson tells May as she pursues Creel via motorcycle. "This shouldn't have happened."

And it wouldn't have happened if Idaho and Hunter didn't need to leave the op in order to save Hartley, which proved a futile mission anyway.
