There was a lot of speculation that much of the original cast of X-Men would be re-cast for the next movie in order to bring in new, younger actors and it was confirmed by writer Simon Kinberg that this was the case. But it seems like one actor knows who could play him, while also knowing he has some work left with the role.

Is 'X-Men: Apocalypse' Going To Be The End For Some Of The Key Characters?

James Marsden sat down with Yahoo! on Wednesday to talk his latest film, The Best of Me, and talked about who he felt could play Cyclops in X-Men: Apocalypse, and he didn't have to look too far either: his costar Luke Bracey.

"Yeah, that'd be great [if Luke Bracey took over as Cyclops]," Marsden joked. "Then he could just eventually take over being me. Then I would never get another role as long as I live!"

'X-Men: Apocalypse' Writer Is Open To Having 'X-Men 4' Happen With Original Cast

While the actor was joking, he added that while the may re-cast his part with a younger actor, he wouldn't be opposed to coming back to the role later on. He said that he felt there was still some work to do within the role.

"Who knows what's happening [with 'X-Men']? It's all just speculation at this point. If [recasting] does happen, it was because of a timeline issue," Marsden said. "I know so little about that whole world. Most of the time, the actors are the last to know."

Kinberg also hinted that he would be open to bringing back the original cast for another adventure, but nothing had been talked about yet. It is reassuring that the cast is interested and would be a fun jump to have both a young and older cast moving the story along simultaneously.

X-Men: Apocalypse is set to open in theaters on May 27, 2016.
