Marvel must be sitting at their offices just shaking their heads as their top actor goes back and forth playing with the media about what his plans are for another Iron Man movie. Now the actor has both confirmed and denied the project happening.

What Controversial Director Does Robert Downey Jr. Want For 'Iron Man 4?'

It began when the actor spoke with Ellen on Tuesday and said that there were plans in place to make Iron Man 4. "I know there's going to be more Marvel movies, and they have big ideas of how to do it best. We're in the middle of negotiations, blah blah blah," he said.

When asked by Ellen if that meant yes, he replied with "Ok, yes."

Robert Downey Jr. Says There Is A Future For Iron Man Being Discussed At Marvel

It makes sense as Iron Man 3 was one of last year's highest grossing films and continues to be a staple property for Marvel, but it also is against comments the actor made last year when he said that he would be doing Avengers 2 and 3 before hanging up the role for good.

But that changed on Tuesday night when Downey Jr. was on The Late Show with David Letterman and completely backtracked the plans that he had confirmed hours ago on Ellen, saying there were no solid plans for Iron Man 4 just yet.

"There are no plans for Iron Man 4 ... There's no script for Iron Man 4, but [Marvel does] have a plan and I think they're going to announce it - you know, they're very secretive about it," he said.

Downey Jr. is just pulling all of our legs this week and has done an excellent job of feeding the media with Marvel answers while secretly promoting his new movie, The Judge. But it seems like Iron Man 4 leaves the week still an uncertainty, but not entirely out of the realm of possibility.
