Marvel seems to be making some big plans and this could include Spider-Man coming home and appearing in a future Avengers movie. But could his appearance happen earlier and signal the start of a major storyline from the comics?

Will Chris Evans Hang Up The Shield During 'Captain America 3?'

A few weeks back, Anthony and Joe Russo, who are directing Captain America 3, spoke with MoviePilot about the movie and what fans could expect to see, or maybe the unexpected.

"Listen, when I started collecting, The Secret Wars was one of the first books I ever bought, so that's always been an obsession of mine to see something of that scale done - a crossover," Joe said.

"I don't know if that would ever be possible, with all the different situations at the studios. But I would love to see a lot of characters on screen together."

At the time, it seemed like a pipe dream to have Spider-Man fighting alongside any Avengers, but with the recent reports that have circulated this week, it seems like Sony is becoming more lenient on Marvel using the web-slinger in their future movies.

Could the Russo brothers have hinted at this and would that mean a Secret Wars plot line is beginning with Captain America 3? Possibly.

It seems like Marvel wants to do some sort of crossover with Spider-Man and the Secret Wars plot is one that would involve Spider-Man with Captain America, which could work as the link before he joins up with the Avengers.

It still has a lot of hoops to jump as Sony is possibly recasting Spider-Man and if he shows up in Captain America 3, that comes a year before the Sinister Six movie, which would be where they wanted to reveal him initially.

Either way, it seems like the Secret Wars could be happening very soon.
