Sony is up in the air right now concerning their Spider-Man universe that may never take off like they want it to. But one star who has already shown to be popular in the series, could be returning to get her own series within this new universe.

A Major Spider-Man Villain Could Die In The Next Movie?

ComicBook speculated on Sunday that Emma Stone could be making her return to the Amazing Spider-Man franchise with the character Spider-Gwen as she takes over the female-led spin-off that Sony announced a few months back.

According to the site, the character of Spider-Gwen has already become popular in pop culture with Spider-Man fans embracing her and this new hero within the universe. Sony already has Stone on line one and the actress has shown a willingness to return so why not do this character?

Within the slate of Spider-Man themed movies on the way was one that was labeled as a female-led spin-off, which could lead to the return of Gwen Stacy and the revelation of Spider-Gwen. Stone is a star that could make it work and while it may be easier to go to characters like Black Cat in this movie, it would be a safer choice for the company to put their solo film behind Stone instead.

Audiences loved her in the series and her chemistry with costar (and boyfriend) Andrew Garfield was one of the highlights of the series so it wouldn't be hard to sell audiences on coming to see this new hero that is played by Stone.

The female-led spin-off is pegged for a 2017 release date as of now.
