Olympic gold medalist Ryan Lochte will celebrate more than his five medal win at the London Olympics.

Today is the Team USA swimmer's 28th birthday and he revealed his plans on celebrating the special day to E! News reporter Giuliana Rancic.

"Today is my birthday, and I'm relaxing," he told her this morning. "This is the first time in 12 years that I can celebrate my birthday and not swim.... spend some time with my family. I've been waiting to hang out with them."

Lochte will relax after competing against Michael Phelps in his last match for the London Games. Phelps beat him in their second Olympic race, earning his 20th gold medal. Phelps now holds a record for being the first male swimmer to win the same Olympics event three times in a row. He clocked in at 1 minute, 54.27s.

Lochte also addressed his mother's comments about his preference for "one-night stands" on the TODAY show.

"She meant I go on a lot of dates," he replied. "She didn't mean anything negative. She's new to the whole media thing."

Previously linked Aussie swimmer Blair Evans had the following to say regarding Lochte:

"I don't think he wants to get into a relationship. It just wouldn't be fair to the girl. He doesn't have the time."

The Olympic swimmer admits he's single and gave a brief description about the qualities he seeks in a girlfriend:

"She has to be fit and can make me laugh."
