With Gordon (Ben McKenzie) more or less separated from Barbara (Erin Richards) at this point on Fox's Gotham, he may be sparking up chemistry with a new woman in the weeks to come.

Dr. Leslie Thompkins (Morena Baccarin) is slated to have a big role in the second half of the season on Gotham, a role that may involve romancing Gordon.

Baccarin spoke with TVGuide.com about Dr. Tompkins, revealing how she differs from the usual character on Gotham and her budding relationship with Gordon.

"She doesn't fall into the corrupt Gotham world," Baccarin noted. "She wants to make it a better place."

With Gordon now working at Arkham Asylum, the pair "have this immediate connection... based on just how insane everything is around them," she added. "It's the beginning of a really great, great friendship."

Asked directly if there might be something beyond just "friendship" between them, Baccarin did not specially deny anything.

"There's definitely chemistry - so I'm not going to say no!" Baccarin said.

The shape of Gotham will change a bit due to Gordon's reassignment to Arkham. The iconic institution will become a character unto itself, according to previous comments by executive producer Danny Cannon.

"Without a doubt," Cannon said when asked if Arkham would become a major character going forward. "And Episode 11 will really solidify that. When you're making a show basically about the lunatics that are running the asylum - and I imagine that's what Gotham is - it's really good to actually go to an asylum and do stories there, because you can be as bold as you want to be."

Gotham returns for the second half of season 1 on Monday, Jan. 5 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.
