LL Cool J is returning with an album that he is calling 'authentic hip-hop' after being absent on the music scene for four years.

The hip hop maestro that entered the music world in his teens has been busy for the past four years pursuing another passion in his life - acting. The "NCIS: LA" star has had considerable success as an actor but is now ready to return to his first love.

"Well, I took four years off to do TV and kinda explore other things artistically," he told MTV. "I just felt like it was time to come back to my roots."

This will be LL's, whose off stage name is Todd Smith, 13th album. With this album, he's looking to bring the mature sound to hip-hop that he feels is currently missing.

"I would say a lot of music right now is catering to 14- and 17-year-olds, and that's totally OK, but there are people who grew up on hip-hop who are a little more mature and want to hear a different style of hip-hop, and to them, that's authentic and credible and that's what they want to hear."

The veteran rapper ensured that his fans won't have to wait long for the single. However, the official release date has not yet been stated.

Along with preparing the album, the music star has also been living out his "NCIS" role, breaking the nose and jaw of a burglar who tried to rob his LA home. Keeping his family safe and sound, it seems his military "NCIS" skills have paid off.

Rest assured, LL is now fully focusing on his album and having a good time in the process.
