In a recent interview director Leigh Whannell dished about his experience filming Insidious 3 and stated that even though it was "hard and stressful" it was a very "intimate experience" for him.

Insidious 3 To Be "Special," Like A "Specter Of The Further"?

Speaking to Variety, Whannell spoke about how it was for him being a first-time director and how he drew from his experience as a writer.

"Yes, it's as hard and stressful as everyone warned me, but far more of an intimate experience than I expected, and really like an extension of writing," he says. "You don't just write about a doorway; you get to choose the door's color and deal with every last detail."

Fans "Will Love The Continuation" Of The Horror Franchise

The director has been picked by the entertainment publication as one to watch out for in a list featuring 10 filmmakers.

Whannell also admitted to the fact that getting to work on "such an established franchise" was definitely a leg up for him. James Wan, who recently wrapped filming for Furious 7, directed that first two films in the Insidious series.

"I realize that starting with such an established franchise gave me a very cushioned debut as a director, and now I'd like to create whole new worlds and move into different genres," he says. "I've got to make up for lost time."

Dermot Mulroney and Stefanie Scott star in Insidious 3. Lin Shaye will be reprising her role as Elise in this chapter.

In an earlier interview, Whannell revealed that third film will not be based around the Lambert family. But that does not mean that this sequel will be completely disconnected from the first two films, as the writer also added that this one will be "a lot more like part one than part two."

Insidious 3 will be released in June 2015.
