It looks like the fourth season of Call the Midwife is going to be a pretty emotional ride.

'Call The Midwife' Character Will Go 'From One Extreme To The Other'

On Friday, Daily Mail posted the news from actress Charlotte Ritchie who will be playing newcomer Barbara Gilbert. She mentioned that she and other cast members let out some tears as they looked over the script for the fourth episode of the upcoming season.

"We were crying through the read-through, we were crying through rehearsal, but when we were crying during the filming the director had to tell us, 'Pull yourselves together,'" Ritchie said.

The actress then dished on what kind of person Barbara is, and it sounds like she might be someone who audiences might like to see.

"She's newly qualified and quite naive," Ritchie shared. "She's very nice and kind, but a bit haphazard. She generally starts enthusiastically, but then makes mistakes- and there's one that knocks her for six."

The 25-year-old said that her co-stars were more than polite to her ever since she joined the cast.

"It was strange when I went to the read-through and met all the actresses for the first time," she said. "It was hard to remember not to call them by their character names. I tried to be as cool as possible."

"I had a lot of scenes with Helen [George, who plays Trixie] and Emerald [Fennell, who plays Patsy] and they were both really welcoming," Ritchie said.

Call the Midwife Season 4 is expected to start later this month on BBC One.
