Much like many villains on ABC's Once Upon a Time, Ursula (Merrin Dungey) will have a twist on her character and backstory in the second half of season 4.

Will 'Once Upon a Time' Creators Change Maleficent's Mythology After Success Of Angelina Jolie Movie?

Ursula the sea witch will have her own past exposed in upcoming episodes of Once Upon a Time. OUAT co-creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz revealed this bit of information and more in a new report with Entertainment Tonight.

"You may or may not remember but in season three Regina got into a little bit of trouble impersonating Ursula and we got a little lesson on the legend of the season goddess," Kitsis reminded, to start. "She's based into the mythology of our Once Upon a Time universe and we're going to be exploring that further."

'Once Upon a Time's Cruella de Vil Not Anything Like The Puppy Villain From Disney Movie?

With the writers taking liberties with the Little Mermaid story in season 3, fans should expect something similar with Ursula.

"As we saw last year, our Little Mermaid story didn't quite happen the same way as it did in the movie - and the Ursula story is quite different as well," Kitsis said.

Ursula is one of the three Queens of Darkness slated to descend upon Storybrooke, joined by Maleficent (Kristin Bauer van Straten) and Cruella de Vil (Victoria Smurfit). The creators said that the villains would have interesting backstories with some of the core characters.

Once Upon a Time returns for the second half of season 4 on Sunday, March 1 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
