Finn Wittrock may have made one of the biggest impressions on FX's American Horror Story: Freak Show, but should he become the new lead for season 5?

Will Sarah Paulson Become Sole Lead of 'American Horror Story' With Jessica Lange Gone?

Wittrock was one of the standout actors on AHS: Freak Show, portraying the petulant man-child Dandy Mott. While there has not been any cast announcements for season 5, it would seem reasonable that the actor will probably be back as a new character.

In a show that has become increasingly female-centric, with standout actresses like Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Frances Conroy and Sarah Paulson, Wittrock became an interesting male presence. Evan Peters has held down the fort as far as male actors, though Wittrock certainly gave him a run for his money this year.

One thing that could be a drawback for Wittrock becoming the lead of season 5 is the lack of precedent. Season 1 was led by older actors Dylan McDermott and Connie Britton while the past three seasons have been led by the even older Lange. Would Wittrock have the commanding presence to lead a new season?

It seems more likely that Wittrock could get another standout supporting role in season 5. However, anything is possible on American Horror Story and assuming producers understand how popular he became over the course of the season, a juicy role should be expected.

American Horror Story season 5 is expected to air in October on FX, though the channel has not yet announced a specific premiere date.
