Nicole Richie went above and beyond going glam at the ALMA Awards in Pasadena, Calif., this weekend.

The fashionista left her signature bohemian style at home and stepped out in an ultra luxurious dress by Mathieu Mirano complete with black and gold feathers and sexy sheer cutouts. The garment is an original creation and carries a hefty price tag of $7,990.

Richie polished the look with dramatic raccoon eye makeup, Yves Saint Laurent shoes, jewelry by Meus and a clutch from her own collection, House of Harlow.

Though some fashion critics praised Richie's unique look, others aren't so sure. In a poll conducted by E! News, 63 percent of voters said they weren't a fan of the Mathieu Mirano gown.

Fashion has become Richie's wheelhouse these days, and she's now more known for her couture than her days on "The Simple Life" with former BFF Paris Hilton.

She currently designs a jewelry line, House of Harlow 1960, and a women's apparel line called Winter Kate.

Both are named after her daughter, Harlow Winter Kate Madden, with husband Joel Madden of Good Charlotte. The couple also has a son, Sparrow James Midnight Madden.

Richie is also a mentor on the NBC reality competition series "Fashion Star," alongside Jessica Simpson and designer John Varvatos.
