Elisabeth Moss will miss playing Peggy Olson on Mad Men, but there's one thing her new gig offers that she just didn't get over at AMC.

"I'm never happier than when I'm crying onstage," said the 32-year-old actress during an interview with The New York Times on Wednesday. "It's super weird, and it's what I love to do. Isn't that strange?"

Moss recently began the preview for her latest project, the Broadway revival of The Heidi Chronicles, a Tony-winning play written by Wendy Wasserstein in 1988.

The title role offers Moss plenty of chances to cry in front of a live audience, which is good considering the actress doesn't have much reason to fret in her personal life at the moment.

Even the end of Mad Men, though a difficult and sad goodbye, is not something that has slowed her down. "They're family," she explained. "So it doesn't feel as tragic as you might think."

As for the ending, all Moss would say was that she hadn't seen it coming. "I actually really, really like it and was very surprised by it," she declared.

Many of the show's cast have admitted to being pleased with the "surprising" ending, though creator Matthew Weiner knows that not everyone will ultimately be satisfied with the program's conclusion.

Mad Men will return on AMC for the remainder of its seventh and final season on Sunday, April 5.
