Writers expect the upcoming season of Longmire to be the best one yet.

'Longmire' Star Says Fan Letters Were Used During Key Netflix Meeting

As the series prepares for its first run on Netflix, writer Tony Tost announced on Twitter Wednesday that this is already his "favorite" season.

How 'Longmire' Is Changing Modern Television

Longmire faced permanent cancellation back in 2014 after A&E dropped the crime drama following its third season. The program's overwhelming fanbase led them to find a new home on Netflix in November.

Of course, there are some fundamental differences between programming on A&E and programming on Netflix. The latter offers no commercials, which means each episode of Longmire will run 10 minutes longer this season. Netflix also has no restrictions on content in terms of violence, language, etc. This opens the show up to a lot more creative freedom, though how much of that freedom writers have decided to use has yet to be determined.

So what does Tost mean by history? Will the show dive into Walt's personal history, or a greater history of the region? It's most likely that he's referring to the show's history as a whole, with relationships and dynamics that have been developed over the last three seasons.

With a home like Netflix, the possibilities are endless.

Production is set to begin later this month.

Longmire will likely return for a fourth season on Netflix during the latter half of 2015.
