Orange Is the New Black star Matt McGorry admitted this week that he just recently found out the true definition of feminism.

McGorry, who plays prison guard John Bennett on Orange Is the New Black, wrote a message on his Facebook page Thursday explaining that he now knows the actual meaning of feminism.

"I'm embarrassed to admit that I only recently discovered the ACTUAL definition of 'feminism'. The fact that the term is sometimes clouded with anything other than pure support and positivity in our society is very tragic," he wrote. "I believe in gender equality. Being a feminist is for both women AND men. I AM A FEMINIST. In for equality? Pass it on - #LeanInTogether #LeanIn #IAmAFeminist #HeForShe."

Netflix Announces June Premiere For 'Orange Is The New Black' Season 3

The actor was flooded with supportive commenters thanking him for spreading the message and discussing how the concept has been muddled as of late.

McGorry has actually been a part of two very pro-feminist shows recently. Orange Is the New Black is very female-centric considering it is based in a prison of all females. Both men and women are allowed to be flawed and interesting characters in the show.

Similarly, McGorry stars in ABC's How to Get Away With Murder, which stars Viola Davis, a complex antihero who has her strengths and flaws as much as anyone. In a TV climate that features many shows with male antiheroes as leads, it is considered refreshing by many audience members.

Orange Is the New Black season 3 is slated to be released Friday, June 12 on Netflix.
