It's official now, Michael Bay will very much be directing the sequels for Transformers: Age of Extinction.

Plot For Transformers 5 To Rewind To Earlier Movies In Franchise?

A new Deadline report shared a few details about the development of the next Transformers movies. Deadline states that Paramount is looking to get a bunch of new writers to work on the upcoming films, which will be part of the Transformers trilogy launched by Age of Extinction. The studio is working on tapping into the talent of Akiva Goldsman, and have him collaborate with Bay on the films.

Last year, Variety reported that the director has signed on to helm a Paramount movie based on the book, Thirteen Hours: A Firsthand Account of What Really Happened in Benghazi by Mitchell Zuckoff. The book investigates the terrorist strike on the U.S. Special Mission Compound & CIA Annex in Benghazi. This seemed to set off more rumors about Bay moving on to other stuff. But Deadline also clarifies that in fact the director is hoping that the writing and main groudwork for Transformer 5 is done by the time he finishes filming Benghazi, as he will be running on a very tight schedule.

Will Megan Fox Join The Age of Extinction Sequel?

Rumors about Bay's exit from the franchise were set off by anan MTV interview, in which the director hinted at the possibility of a new director coming on board when asked about Transformers 5. "There's a lot that's unexplored, but that's for the next director to figure out," he said.

The speculation was further fed by reports of Bay agreeing to direct Transformers 5 only on the condition that the producers allow him to direct a smaller, passion project, like Pain and Gain last year, before working on the mega blockbuster franchise.

"There's kind of a new chapter, a new direction in movies I want to make," Bay said. "I have a lot of stories to tell. And it's about flexing new muscles."

Transformers: Age of Extinction hit theaters on June 27, 2014.
