Speculation ran rampant that Kanye West was planning to propose to girlfriend Kim Kardashian during a celebration of her 32nd birthday in Rome this weekend, but West has not yet popped the question.

Kardashian turned 32 years old on Oct. 21, and West surprised her with a trip to Rome, where the couple shared Bolognese pasta and a public kiss. CLICK HERE to see photos of Kardashian and West sharing some PDA in Rome.

But Kardashian's best friend Jonathan Cheban, who has appeared in numerous episodes of her E! reality series "Keeping Up with the Kardashians," told The Huffington Post on Monday that West did not in fact propose during the couple's Roman holiday.

"She wrote me this morning and didn't mention it," Cheban said.

The rumors of West asking Kardashian this weekend to be his wife hit a fever pitch after Ryan Seacrest weighed in. Seacrest has a close relationship with the entire Kardashian clan, and he serves as an executive producer on "Keeping Up with the Kardashians."

During his KIIS FM radio show last week, Seacrest discussed the possibility of a birthday proposal for Kardashian, and he hinted to listeners that it could happen on Sunday, which many fans took seriously because of his connection to Kim and her family.

"I think we could definitely see an update on this story on Monday," Seacrest told his co-host, Ellen K.

An insider close to Kardashian and West told Radar Online that the 35-year-old rapper has been planning to pop the question for quite a while, and he is simply waiting for the right time and the perfect ring.

"It's only a matter of time before Kanye pops the question," the source said. "They are madly in love with one another, and as far as Kanye is concerned he wants to spend the rest of his life with Kim. It's just a case of making sure the ring is perfect because she's his princess."
