It appears that American's favorite cartoon series might stay on TV forever.

Chatter On Mr. Burns & The Politician On 'The Simpsons'

On Monday, MSN Entertainment mentioned that The Simpsons has been renewed for two more seasons- meaning it will last for a total of 28 years at least. This apparently breaks a record based on what the show's character Homer Simpson said.

"I've outlasted Letterman, Jon Stewart and 'McDreamy' because I have something they don't: a costly 200-donut-a-day addiction," the cartoon husband and dad said.

This leaves some insight on exactly how long The Simpsons will last. It would seem that after 20 years, some ideas would have run out, but the show begs to differ. There will be more of the crazy yellow-skinned family taking on more oddball moments as well as plenty of satire on real-life issues.

A number of famous celebrities have voiced characters on the series, sometimes playing new members in Springfield and sometimes playing themselves. This includes Larry King, Magic Johnson, Linda Ronstadt, James Woods, Mel Brooks, Bob Newhart, Rodney Dangerfield, Alex Trebek, Lisa Kudrow, Mel Gibson and lots more.

Writer-director Judd Apatow wrote his own episode of The Simpsons years ago when the show was still new, and the episode ended up airing earlier this year. It involved Homer being hypnotized into thinking that he was Bart's best friend, which showed them in a friendlier bond.

The Simpsons airs on Sunday night at 8 p.m. ET on FOX.
