There have been a bunch of confirmations and reveals made about the development of Fast and Furious 8, including the exact release date.

Paul Walker's Character To Be Replaced By Brother, Cody, In Furious 7 Sequel?

We know that Diesel and the crew will be returning with Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) for the sequel to Furious 7, but there has been no official word on who will be steering this ride. For a good period it was assumed that Justin Lin would be coming back to reclaim the franchise.

Last year, Deadline learned that Fast and Furious 8 would be drawing the curtains on the speed thriller. Additionally, the publication also reported that Lin, who helmed the Fast movies before Furious 7 -- which has been directed by James Wan -- might be returning for the final bow. The plan for the finale is pretty unique and ambitious, as it is set to be a "multi-part production" and there will multiple movies filmed together for the big 8.

Which Actors Might Be In The Running To Fill Paul Walker's Shoes In Fast and Furious 8?

But later, a Hollywood Reporter piece contradicted the Deadline report, stating that Wan's not quite out the door yet. The publication speculated that Wan is still in the running. Wan, who directed Furious 7, told the publication that he's be up for taking up the next in the series as well. "I'm open to anything at this point," he said.

Additionally, the record breaking success of Furious 7 might very well keep Wan in the running.

Fast and Furious 8 will premiere on April 15, 2017.

Furious 7 hit theaters on April 3, 2015.
