The Vampire Diaries aired its sixth season finale on May 14, which left some storylines unresolved such as Lily (Annie Wersching) and her complicated relationship with her sons Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley).

'The Vampire Diaries' Stars Kat Graham & Candice Accola Reminisce On Working With Nina Dobrev

The Salvatore brothers ended the sixth season on rough notes. Both had to say goodbye to Elena (Nina Dobrev) who is under a spell courtesy of Kai (Chris Wood) that shall leave her in a deep sleep until Bonnie (Kat Graham) dies. Plus, it seems like their mother is ready to cause havoc in Mystic Falls with her heretic pals that came to surface once Kai died in the finale. He previously had them cloaked, but his death made them and the building they were inside visible.

So now, that fans have been given a bit of time to digest that intense season finale, one of the executive producers, Caroline Dries, has dished some scoop on what's to come for the Salvatore brothers in the upcoming season.

Damon Won't Cope Well Without Elena In Season 7 Of 'The Vampire Diaries'?

Last week, TV Line reported that Dries said Enzo (Michael Malarkey) would be torn between the brothers and their mother moving forward.

"He's eventually going to have to choose a side," Dries revealed, adding, "In some ways, he feels drawn to Lily; she turned him and she's the only real family he has. But he's also friends with Damon, so it's going to create an interesting dilemma, and whichever side he chooses will have serious ramifications."

Is this why Damon will be a loose cannon in Season 7? Will Enzo side with Lily?

The series returns to The CW in the fall for Season 7.
