The New York Times recently did a profile on Lin Shaye and also talked to the actress about playing Elise in the Insidious franchise.

New Insidious Demon Played By Actor Who Portrayed Sloth In Seven  

Shaye, who is now known for her parts in horror movies has also done roles in funny movies like There's Something About Mary. Her character Elise has been pivotal to the Insidious series as she guides the inflicted mortals to the further and can connect them with spirits beyond their reach. In the process Elise goes through a lot of trauma and also gets caught up in the dangerous web of the further. The actress told The New York Times that according to her, Elise draws her strength from her great degree of compassion. "The strength of this character is very appealing to people," she said. "She comes from an emotional and loving place."

While discussing her acting process, Shaye also revealed that she actually believes in good and bad energy, and she does not just treat the part of playing Elise as a detached job. The role affects Shaye personally too. "I totally believe that you put forward something, and it stimulates something else out there," she said.

Insidious Chapter 3 To 'Dig Into Elise's Back Story

Leigh Whannell, the director of Chapter 3 also spoke to the Times about Shaye's craft.

"She was so deep into the world of demons and ghosts that she internalized it," he said. "As the guy who directed the film, I can tell you I found it a privilege to work with someone who is not faking what they are doing on screen."

Insidious: Chapter 3 will hit theaters on June 5.
