Agents of SHIELD's Mack is here to stay, at least for season 3.

'Agents Of SHIELD' Season 3: Will Any Characters Appear In 'Civil War'? Ming-Na Wen Teases MCU Tie Ins

The burly mechanic nearly left Coulson's team twice this year - once in a body bag and once thanks to the Director's limitless secrets - but Marvel has confirmed Alphonso "Mack" Mackenzie continued presence by promoting Henry Simmons to series regular.

"Mack's story from Season 2 left him at a great place for us to continue, opening up new possibilities for the character as he takes charge of overseeing SHIELD's storehouse of unexplainable or alien objects," executive producer Jeph Loeb announced on Thursday. "We couldn't be more excited to add Mack to our regular cast of heroes."

'Agent Carter' Season 2: Diversity Is An 'Important Subject Of Debate' Moving Forward, Hayley Atwell Explains

Like Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge), Mack has become particularly wary of all things alien. His time in the Kree temple has shown him first hand how dangerous that foreign tech can be, and SHIELD's desire to pursue the unknown with such reckless abandoned nearly caused him to leave the organization for good. To alleviate Mack's fears, Coulson gave the agent a season finale promotion, placing him in charge of the agency's hoard of extraterrestrial goodies. Now, Simmons' character can ensure that no other agent can kick off another maelstrom of TAHITI proportions.

Unfortunately, Fitz (Iain DeCastecker) and Simmons have already managed to muck up that plan - Simmons just had to go and get sucked into an alien rock, the team couldn't just one tiny moment of peace (see video below) - and it will be interesting to see how the gentle giant will handle SHIELD's latest alien mishap.
