Though fans weren't all receptive to the casting of only dating couples last season, the successful formula of pairing people up on Blind Dates may be making a bit of a comeback in season 27 of The Amazing Race.

Mike & Rochelle Share Their Final Leg Regrets

In an interview with Gold Derby, show host Phil Keoghan seemed to hint that the upcoming season would feature teams who met at the starting line again--though this time around, the show may be changing the formula to make it all teams with no pre-existing relationships, with the initial focus of creating dating couples falling off to the side.

"I would describe season 27 as a real character season, meaning the cast is really a little different than anything we've ever had," he said. "There's some character types there that we've never had before on the show, so I think there'll be a little bit of...I think we've got some good match-ups with people, where I think we're going to see some fun banter between teams, in a different way from last season which was a dating show, and it was about couples."

Jenny & Jelani Admit Their Lack Of Selfies Cost Them $1 Million

Though the show could be abandoning the couples only focus (of the five couples that were set up on blind dates, none have admitted to dating off of the show), a formula that focuses solely on teams who meet at the starting line could prove to be a winner. Not only would it potentially help rejuvenate the series after it's long run, but teams who met at the starting line proved to be a bigger success in season 26.

Of the dating couples in season 26, the only ones to make it to the finale were Rochelle Nevedal and Mike Dombrowski, who placed fourth. Other couples, including Matt Cucolo and Ashley Gordon (who became engaged on the race) and Olympians Aly Dudek and Steve Langton, placed fifth and sixth. The other three pre-existing couples, Cj Harris and Lebya Simpson, Harley Rodriguez and Jonathan Knight and Lyda Grawn and Jeff Magee, placed in the bottom three spots.

However, the blind dating teams managed to do extremely well, with eventual top three teams Laura Pierson and Tyler Adams (1st), Jelani Roy and Jenny Wu (2nd) and Hayley Keel and Blair Townsend (3rd) all not meeting until three weeks before crossing the finish line. Jackie Ibarra and Jeff Wheldon as well as Bergen Olson and Kurt Belcher, placed 7th and 8th.
