Dr. Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) has been appearing on the ABC medical drama since its fifth season.

Does Caterina Scorsone Believe The 'Grey's Anatomy' Cast Is 'Incredibly Close'?

Capshaw started out as Arizona with a recurring role and was promoted to the main cast from the sixth season onward.

It appears as though she recently extended her contract with the series according to TVLine.

Could Katherine Heigl Return To 'Grey's Anatomy' For Season 12?

Capshaw's contract was up in May, but she has renewed it until May 2018. While Grey's Anatomy has only received the green light for a 12th season so far, it seems as though if this new era without Patrick Dempsey's Dr. Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd goes well, the series will be around for much longer.

This gives plenty of time then for Arizona and Dr. Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) to get back together. For most of Season 11, Arizona and Callie each focused on themselves since splitting from each other.

Back in May, the actress told TVLine that her character and Ramirez's character would be heading towards "peaceful coexistence" in this upcoming season.

It seems as though Capshaw's character might even find a new love, but if her contract has been renewed and there winds up being many more seasons maybe Shonda Rhimes will make Arizona and Callie come back to each other.

Plus, Ramirez will be negotiating her contract come next May so there's always hope.

Grey's Anatomy returns to ABC on Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. ET for its Season 12 premiere.
