There has been lots of speculation that she would reprise her role as Izzie in season 12 especially with the departure of Patrick Dempsey's character Dr. Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd since it would probably make fans slightly happy to see a familiar face that was on the show in the beginning stages.

Unfortunately for viewers of Grey's Anatomy hoping all of that speculation would hold some truth, they've been let down. Heigl, who is currently promoting her movie Jackie & Ryan, put the rumors to rest.

While speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Heigl shared, "There is not, I'm sorry," when asked about a possible return to the ABC medical drama for its upcoming 12th season.

In the video below, Heigl found herself a little lost for words about the possibility of ever returning, which probably means that won't ever happen considering she left the show when there were rumors that she ruffled Shonda Rhimes' feathers on set constantly.

She also discussed the loss of McDreamy. She's shocked it happened.

"I just can't even imagine the show without McDreamy," she revealed, adding, "I just can't. It's so hard to picture."

Regardless of her surprise and her own departure from the series a few years ago, Heigl regards the show as "an incredible experience."

"It changed the course of my life and my career, and I couldn't be more grateful. I just hope it goes for as long as they all want it to," Heigl said.

Grey's Anatomy returns to ABC on Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. ET for its season 12 premiere.
