Speaking to fans, the Real Housewives of Orange County star recounted the hardships she went through during season nine, and spoke of how her custody battle impacted her story line.

"The last year had been a long painful journey for me and coming back to the show and filming scared me," Barney admitted in her blog on Tuesday. Throughout filming on The Real Housewives of Orange County season nine, Barney was accused of being a child abuser and unfit mother, but on the show, fans heard nothing of it.

"My ex-husband put me and the children thorough a painful custody battle that lasted a year," Barney explained. "A year of court dates, attorney fees, sleepless nights, scared children, therapy appointments, false media stories, lies, embarrassment, but most of all the worst pain I had ever felt."

Worst of all, the battle resulted in her oldest daughter, 15-year-old Sidney, choosing to live with her ex-husband instead of with her.

"Every day without her is painful for me," Barney wrote.
