Author E.L. James said the names that keep coming up in discussions for the role of Christian Grey are Ryan Gosling, Matt Bomer and Ian Somerhalder, but now, Stephen Amell is a contender and he said he really wants the coveted role for himself.

When James attended an event to promote the "Fifty Shades of Grey" album in London, she reportedly admitted that "now every other tweet" is about Bomer, Somerhalder or Gosling. She also confirmed on the daytime talk show "Katie" in September that she has three unnamed actors in mind for Grey and four in mind for Anastasia Steele. However, Amell might have some experience to offer that the other actors do not.

On the new CW show "Arrow," Amell plays Oliver Queen, a superhero who has some similarities to the Grey character in James' bestseller. Amell's character has a super-secret training room while Grey had a Red Room of Pain; He plays a rich guy who went through a rough patch in his life and now he has a secret life because of it. Not so different, Grey expressed to his love interest Anastasia Steele that he had a difficult past and as a result, he has a sadistic lifestyle that he tries to keep hidden from the world.

Amell is also not expected to have a problem if there are to be erotic sex scenes in the movie - he played a male prostitute on the television show "Hung."

The actor said the following to Look magazine about the "Fifty Shades" movie opportunity:

"I got a link for a Christian Grey fan page, and they put a picture of me as Oliver Queen on there. I'm doing kind of an a**hole smirk, and it blew up. The 'likes' and the comments blew up. I mean if you think about it, it would be four movies, the last part being two parts. I don't even own a house yet. So I don't think that I'd be turning that down any time soon."

Actresses rumored to be up for the lead female role include Emma Watson, Kristen Stewart and Alexis Bledel, among others.
