Recently, the producer of Fast and Furious 8 made a very important revelation regarding the director of the film.

Eva Mendes Has Signed On For Fast and Furious 8?

Neal Moritz stated that they hadn't decided on a director for the film yet, and that the would only have a better idea about who they'd like to bring on board as helmer after they have wrapped the writing process for Fast and Furious 8.

This kind of put a dampner on heavy speculation surrounding the return of Justin Lin, the director of the three Fast and Furious movies that preceded Furious 7. Then rumors about James Wan, the new director who came on board to direct Furious 7, making it his first mega blockbuster project, also still being in the game to take on the sequel ahd also been doing the rounds.

Which Actors Might Be In The Running To Replace Paul Walker In Fast and Furious 8?

But after Moritz's comments we believe their might be another alternative, an altogether new director taking on Fast and Furious 8. It also seems like the direction the producers seemed to want to take with Furious 7 by bringing in Wan, who had mostly been known for his indie-horror projects like the Saw and Insidious series. It was a risk that really paid off. After the success of Furious 7, perhaps the producers would look to introducing another exciting perspective to keep things fresh for the sequel.

Moritz spoke about Fast and Furious 8 in an interview with Cinema Blend.

"What we decided is that we are going to be a little further down the development process on the screenplay before we bring in a director," he said. "We have talked to a lot of directors, but we just haven't made that decision because we're trying to still wrap our heads, 100%, about what the next Fast & Furious is. Once we do that, then we'll bring in the director."

Fast and Furious 8 will premiere on April 15, 2017.

Furious 7 hit theaters last April.
