Man of Steel 2 costume designer Michael Wilkinson recently spoke with Esquire magazine about the new suits for Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) and Superman (Henry Cavill) ahead of the film's 2016 release date.

Wilkinson talked to Esquire about his vision for the superhero suits going into Man of Steel 2 and how it matches with director Zack Snyder's vision.

"I talked a lot with Zack Snyder. He has such a great vision for this film, the cinematic universe that we're creating together with the production designer and the cinematographer," Wilkinson explained. "It has a logic to it. It's very tight. It's a very gritty, real, contemporary world. That's what I had in the back of my mind when I tried to think of a Batman that works for that universe."

Wilkinson did not get into many specifics about the Batman costume, but said that he feels a "huge responsibility" with the Wonder Woman suit. The character has never been brought to the big screen before and Wilkinson said that he and the Man of Steel 2 team is looking back on the numerous iterations of Wonder Woman from comics and other media.

"We're really sinking ourselves into that culture and educating ourselves about her backstory and really thinking hard about a Wonder Woman who is contemporary and reverberates with modern audiences," he revealed.

Wilkinson also confirmed that there would be a new Superman suit that would be "tweaked" from the original seen in Man of Steel.

Man of Steel 2 is scheduled for release in theaters on May 6, 2016.
