The Voice winner Alisan Porter recently opened up about her "haters" and what fans should expect from her upcoming album.

Porter, previously known for her titular role in Curly Sue, won The Voice in the season 10 finale on Tuesday and made history in the process. The 34-year-old was the first artist to win the show with a female coach, giving Christina Aguilera her very first win on the singing competition.

Despite amassing a huge fanbase since her Blind Audition, Porter did receive some criticism from others, who said her show business experience gave her an unfair advantage. Porter heard the criticism, but in a recent interview she discussed how her past experience didn't exactly make things easier as she was trying to become a singer over the past decade.

"It was weird coming in as someone who's been in the business before because I can understand how people could be like, 'Oh, she already had her chance.' You know, what the haters say ... I get it, haters, I get it," she said on AOL Build. "At the same time, I had been trying to be a singer for a decade, so for me it was like, if I get this one shot, I'm going to take it."

Ultimately, her one shot paid off as she was consistently voted through each round of the competition until her big win on Tuesday.

"I'm glad that I did [it]," she admitted. "I walked through a lot of fears and ... I won!"

Now, the album-making process begins. While Porter sang a variety of different genres during her run on the show, including pop, hard rock, country and Broadway, she's not looking to pigeonhole herself into one specific genre.

"I want to focus on writing songs and kind of put the puzzle together," Porter said, of her upcoming album. "I don't want to put myself in any kind of slot. I've waited too long for this and the music will speak for itself and sit where it's supposed to sit."
