Wale topped the Billboard 200 chart this week for the first time in his career.

The Gifted, released on June 25, sold 158,000 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen Soundscan. J. Cole's Born Sinner fell right under The Gifted at No. 2, selling 84,000 copies this week. The album held the same spot when it was released last week. Kanye West's album Yeezus, which was No. 1 last week selling 327,000 copies, fell to No. 3 this week. It sold 65,000 copies this week. 

Wale shared his excitement on Twitter regarding the No. 1 accomplishment.

"Today is a day I want my fans to be extra proud. We have the #1 album in the country!! Came a long way and still goin. So grateful," he wrote on Tuesday.

He then added that he spoke to rappers Rick Ross and Jay-Z on Tuesday morning and they congratulated the rapper on his achievement. The rapper went on to retweet several congratulatory tweets from other artists and fans.

When discussing his album with XXL in March, Wale said, "I want provide a real life listening experience. I want a solid body of work, I want to have a soundtrack to some people's summer... I want this album to be that."

The album includes the hit Bad featuring Tiara Thomas. The remix to the song featuring Rihanna also appears on the record. Wale spoke about Rihanna in an interview with Power 105.1's The Breakfast Club in May and said he appreciates the 25-year-old's "realness."

"When you have a friend like that, who got more than you, more everything, like you just got to appreciate that friendship," he said about the Diamonds singer.

His third studio album also features appearances by Cee-Lo Green, Meek Mill, Ne-Yo, Rick Ross, Wiz Khalifa, 2 Chainz and Lyfe Jennings.

Wale's last album Ambition debuted at No. 2 when it was released in 2011. It sold 164,000 in its first week. Justin Bieber's Under The Mistletoe took the No. 1 spot that week by selling 210,000 copies.
