Aaron Hernandez may have hinted at his guilt in the murder of Odin Lloyd when he admitted to Bristol County Sheriff Thomas M. Hodgson that the death of his father devastated the former NFL star.

Hodgson met with Hernandez twice: once on his arrival to the Bristol County House of Correction and again after the 23-year-old was denied bail. On one of those occasions, Hernandez told the sheriff that his father's sudden death from a hernia operation in 2006 left him devastated, according to The Boston Globe. Details regarding the context of Hernandez's statement were not revealed. The author of the story does not mention how the conversation came about or why Hernandez mentioned the death of his father.

The only additional information Hodgson revealed about the meetings was that the ex-New England Patriots player "presents well," adding that his affableness wouldn't afford him any special privileges at the prison.

And neither Hodges nor The Boston Globe addressed the implications of Hernandez's statement about his father. However, forensic psychiatrist Dr. Keith Ablow wrote an article for Fox News on July 1 that cited the death of Hernandez's father, amongst other factors, to be a significant contributor to the athlete's alleged violent past.

"...I would wonder whether the recipe for making a disaster of Hernandez' life might include traumatic events that were deeply troubling to him in childhood," Ablow wrote. "For example, a bond with his father that might have seemed like a partial solution to those troubling events. The sudden loss of his father. His burying those feelings of loss and helplessness and rage under a haze of marijuana smoke, his seeking to feel more powerful (rather than helpless) by associating with a gang."
