Iron Man Replaced? Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange Breaks New Record in MCU
Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange formally filled the gap Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man left when the character died.
Since 2016, Cumberbatch has been giving justice to Doctor Strange's titular role. Though his next standalone film is yet to be released, he played integral roles in different Marvel Cinematic Universe films, including "Thor: Ragnarok," "Avengers: Infinity War," "Avengers: Endgame," and "Spider-Man: No Way Home."
After Doctor Strange worked with Tony Stark/Iron man in "Avengers: Infinity War," the character seemingly stepped up and became the new backbone of MCU.
Benedict Cumberbatch, the New Lead in MCU?
Marvel President Kevin Feige recently offered a heartfelt congratulatory message to Cumberbatch following the issuance of his Hollywood Walk of Fame Star.
As The Direct quoted, Feige called the Cumberbatch the MCU's anchor before the "madness of the Multiverse" occurs.
"Because somewhere you knew what this could be, and you've always seen the tremendous potential in this character. Because of that, you've become the anchor of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the only actor capable of guiding us through the madness of the Multiverse," he said.
Feige also recalled how, during their first meeting, Cumberbatch already selected the best role for him when the actor asked the president, "So tell me about Doctor Strange."
The Marvel President noted that Cumberbatch already played different roles - including Sherlock Holmes, Hamlet, and Khan. However, Feige chose the actor's role as Doctor Stephen Strange as his best and greatest character ever.

With the continuous exit of the MCU's veteran superheroes, Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange now carries the franchise to lead the new superheroes. Before his appearance in "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness," Cumberbatch received an award recognizing his efforts and abilities as an actor.
This week, the actor received his Hollywood Walk of Fame star. The iconic sidewalk presents the names of the most famous actors who made hit movies.
Meanwhile, Cumberbatch transformed into a real-life hero when he unveiled his star to the public. The actor particularly used his power and popularity in urging people to help the children and families in Ukraine amid the Russian invasion.
"I can't speak today at this amazing moment in my life on this extraordinary platform without acknowledging the obvious of what's happening in Ukraine and to show my support for the people of Ukraine, my support for the people of Russia who are opposing the kleptocracy and the idiocy of that route to try and halt the progression of this atrocity," he went on.
