The final trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has just dropped and it is chock full of fast paced goodness and Jim Carrey hamming it up in the best way possible. This follow up to the popular Sega franchise isn't pulling any punches in terms of Easter Eggs from the games, so let's see what they have in store this go around.

First off, they are bringing Dr. Robotnik back to his original look. Carrey is rocking a bald head and a seriously twisted mustache, and besides being a few pounds lighter is pretty faithful to the character design from the games. In the trailer, he arrives in an egg shaped ship, a throwback to the characters original name, Doctor Eggman. Adding to the excitement, it is revealed Robotnik has found a chaos emerald which plays a big part in the series, granting him what looks like some third act super powers culminating in a giant robot of his own visage. And who doesn't like big robot fights.

Another throwback to the games is the inclusion of Sonic's sidekick Tails, the adorable two-tailed fox who became a mainstay character. Along with Tails, Idris Elba lends his gruff vocals to Knuckles, an animal called an echidna, who gets some major screen time in the clip, showcasing a battle with our little blue hero chock full of snappy one-liners from both combatants.

From downhill snow chases, high flying aerial battles, and a ton of fan service, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is shaping up to surpass the first film, which was amazingly better than folks thought it would be, especially after the character had to be redesigned last minute due to fan outrage. Learning to just go for broke, the creatives seem to have crafted a fun nostalgic video game movie, which has never been an easy feat (I'm talking to you, Super Mario Bros. Movie).

The film also stars Ben Schwartz as Sonic, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Colleen O'Shaughnessey as Tails, and Adam Pally. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will be dashing into theaters on April 8th, but you can get a taste right now by checking out the trailer below.
