Late Night hosts and comedians alike have been commenting out in droves to comment on Will Smith attack on Chris Rock at Sunday night's Oscars.

The winner of this year's Best Actor title at the same awards show stormed the stage and struck the comedian in the face after Rock made a joke about his wife's hair. While the two have formally apologized to each other, the comedy world is getting worried. What message does the audience walk away with if a comedian was slapped in the face by a spectator for telling a joke and then that SAME spectator went on to be honored with the highest award he could possibly receive.

Jimmy Kimmel commented on this during his late night show last night according to an article on The Hollywood Reporter. He joked:

"It's like storming out of the house after breaking up with your girlfriend, then coming back in because you forgot your keys...Of course it was the longest best actor speech in Oscar history, they weren't going to play him off, he would have beaten up everybody in the band...It was historic in that it was the first acceptance speech in which the winner apologized to the Academy before he thanked them."

Kathy Griffin shared on her twitter page, "Let me tell you something, it's a very bad practice to walk up on stage and physically assault a Comedian. Now we all have to worry about who wants to be the next Will Smith in comedy clubs and theaters." Similarly, according to an article on Deadline, comedian Patton Oswald shared that he was, "very nervous for my shows at the @TheIrvineImprov tomorrow and Tuesday. Anyone have a catcher's mask I can borrow?"

We hope that there are no copycat incidents, and that this moment will just go down as one of those wild and interesting award show moments.
