A-list actress Charlize Theron was recently revealed to have starred in cameos in two unexpected superhero properties - The Boys and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. While both cameos appeared in quick succession over a matter of weeks, there seems to be no coordination between the two properties.

In an interview given to Variety, The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke divulged how they got the A-lister to appear as Stormfront in Dawn of the Seven, a movie that appears in the universe of the series.

"Like most cameos on our show, it follows the rigorous and stringent screening process of whoever returns Seth Rogen's phone calls. And to her immense and everlasting credit - she had just made 'The Long Shot' with Seth - and to her incredible credit, she agreed to come on and help us out."

Then, when Kripke was out with family seeing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, he was tickled pink when he saw that Theron had also recorded a cameo for the Marvel film as Clea, a portal-hopping sorceress.

Kripke recalled:

"I did not know this 'Doctor Strange' thing was happening. My assumption is we asked her before. But I was in the theater watching 'Doctor Strange' with my kids and then that cameo came up and I was like, 'Yes!' Anything we can do to draw a line between us and Marvel is a good day."

The Boys is a black comedy superhero show that often parodies superhero character types popularized by Marvel and DC Comics. In the universe of the show, superpowered humans are recognized by heroes by the public and are managed by Vought International.

However, the show reveals that these "heroes" were often arrogant, selfish, and corrupt in reality. Thus, having a cameo in common with a major Marvel blockbuster is ideal for The Boys in maintaining its adherence to and mirroring of the superhero genre - even it wasn't intentional.

Basically, at the end of the day, what we've learned is Charlize Theron is super cool, and can REALLY rock a supersuit.
