Tom Hanks has been in the Hollywood industry for a long time, and like other celebrities, he amassed millions of followers on social media, especially his Twitter account. However, it's been two years since he last had an activity on the platform. Today, the actor is speaking out about why he stepped back from the bird app.

Speaking to The New York Times Magazine, the "Forrest Gump" star offered a few explanations for why he completely ditched the platform, saying it was an "empty exercise."

He also noted that he's famous enough, so he doesn't need to use it anymore.

"I'd post something goofy like, 'Here's a pair of shoes I saw in the middle of the street,' and the third comment would be, '[Expletive] you, Hanks.' I don't know if I want to give that guy the forum," he said. (via Comicbook)

As of this writing, Hanks has not removed or deactivated his account but has over 16 million followers.

Throughout the years before he stopped using the app, the actor was popularly known for sharing funny pictures, especially clothes that he found on the streets.

Regarding his Instagram account, he also stopped using it starting in the fall of 2020.

Tom Hanks Not the First Celebrity to Step Away from Twitter

It turns out that celebrities who stopped using their Twitter accounts are pretty common, as there are numerous artists who either deactivated, stopped using, or simply did not post anymore on their respective profiles.

One of which is Ruby Rose in 2018 after being cast on The CW's "Batwoman."

According to People Magazine, the actress, who identifies as gender fluid, was criticized for being an openly gay superhero on television.

Before being completely gone from the platform, Rose got a chance to tweet, writing, "Where on earth did 'Ruby is not a lesbian therefore she can't be batwoman' come from - has to be the funniest most ridiculous thing I've ever read."

She added that she's been struggling with the "too gay" narrative for the past five years, and it didn't change.

The actress has deleted her account entirely and hasn't returned since. However, her Instagram profile remains active, and comments have been turned on for the public to express their opinions.
