Tom Cruise turned 60 yesterday, yet there has long been speculation that he may join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Rumors surfaced in the lead-up to the release of "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" regarding who would appear as a cameo from a non-MCU comic book movie or potential variations.

Still, take it with a grain of salt, because as Express UK pointed out, the whole Illuminati cast of Earth 838 was revealed in the months and weeks leading up to the film's premiere.

The main one, though, involving Tom Cruise as Superior Iron Man, a villainous counterpart of Tony Stark, did not come true.

Long before Robert Downey Jr. earned the part that quickly revitalized his career, the "Mission Impossible" actor almost ended up playing Iron Man in 2008.

But now that the multiverse has opened up, Marvel has multiple options if he so desires.

"Sources say that Tom Cruise is heading to the MCU," according to the publication. According to sources, Tom Cruise is in discussions to play Superior Iron Man in Marvel Studios' crossover epic Secret Wars."

Furthermore, "Secret Wars" is the expected "Avengers 5" large crossover event for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which has yet to be revealed as of writing.

In Marvel comics, several Marvel superhero varieties meet in a multiverse extravaganza.

It's like three "Spider-Man" heroes sharing the screen with multiple other versions of other characters in one enormous movie, according to Express.

This is where Tom Cruise may be convinced to appear, according to a source, "So, what we're getting here is that Tom Cruise might be Superior Iron Man, but not just a cameo part." He could return if he agrees to shoot another film, Marvel's Secret Wars."
